A Christmas You Can Never Lose
Many of life’s possessions can be lost for whatever reason. Unowned possessions cannot be lost for one cannot lose what they do not have. Christmas, the holiday, is celebrated differently for customs, cultures, and traditions vary. Christmas traditions change and time has a way of interrupting family Christmas celebrations. Children grow up and eventually marry and have their own families. Sometimes the only Christmas semblance remaining is the memory of “Christmases of Old”! Some people may wind up with health issues affecting even the ability to remember. Societies are made up with some asking, “Where are you Christmas”? Tragically enough, there are some who may be asking, “What is Christmas”?
Those of us who are saved believe the Bible and know fully what Christmas really is! It is far greater than tradition, holiday celebration, and even the walk down memory lane to family Christmases of the past. Allow me to make a point. If you know the Christ of Christmas, you can never lose “Christmas,” in the context of Bible truth and you can never lose Christmas regardless of how your memory may serve you later in life.
Christmas viewed through Biblical lens and enjoyed by saving grace is eternally enriching, for students of Scripture understand that we are celebrating the total redemptive work of Christ at Christmas time. We understand He came to die for our sins. We understand He paid our sin debt at Calvary. We understand He arose victoriously over death, hell, and the grave. We understand He ascended back to Heaven and intercedes for the saints. We understand He is coming back. We celebrate at the same time Christmas and Easter! We sing with joy that He was born and shout the victory that He is risen.
The Christmas that is never lost is the one seen in Matthew’s Gospel. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21 JESUS was born and “JESUS” means “SAVIOUR.” He saves the sinner from sins, not in sins! He died to redeem the sinner; He gives the Holy Spirit to renew the redeemed sinner and the power to live the victorious Christian life. The risen Lord is the guarantee that the redeemed will be resurrected. Christ is in a person saved! “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” – Colossians 1:27 I would then ask, in light of Scripture, “How can Christmas be lost if Christ is in you?
