Christmas Things
Mary remembered, pondered, and weighed all the things that she had been told, pertaining to the One that she was chosen to birth into this world. “But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” – Luke 2:19 She weighed those things in her heart. A mother does not forget things respecting their child. The one she would deliver was nurtured beside her heart, yet sent to this world because of the loving heart of God! “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16 Her “ponderings” came from a deeply spiritual heart as well as a mother’s heart.
Christmas things of the most value are not material things but rather truths concerning this One brought into the world through the medium of the Virgin’s womb. These “things” are redemptive and eternal “things” for they pertain to God’s plan of salvation. These “things” are far greater “things” than the usual “Christmas things” occupying the mind and efforts of most of this world. These “things” are even greater than Church, “Christmas things” which elevate performance over the essential message of Christmas. May God help us all to prioritize the pondering of the “Christmas Things” that constitute the purpose of Christmas. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2::11
