Coming, Believing, and Rewarded
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6
Coming to God is a “faith experience” prompted by the Holy Spirit’s conviction as one is exposed to the Scriptures. The first essential direction of faith is in the belief that God is. The fact of His existence is accepted. The belief that “God is” is to also believe that God is here! We tend to reference the church as “God’s house” as if His presence is only in Church! We certainly worship God in Church but would do well to understand that His presence is not restricted to church. David confirmed this truth. “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?” – Psalm 139:7
When we come to Him, believing that He is and He is here, we are blessed by His conviction to live in light of His presence and our lives are enriched. Our testimony and commitment are authentic. A genuine faith that “God is” and that He is here, results in true spirituality and far more than simply a “little religion”! Charles Spurgeon said, “Of all the miserable things in the world, a little religion is about the worst of all.”
Those coming to Him and believing are rewarded. The greatest reward is the reward of Himself! He not only gave Himself for us but also to us for He is residing in the believer. “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” – Colossians 1:27
The saved are rewarded with the greatest reward. Ask a newborn Christian about the reward and they will tell you about the reward of saving grace. Ask a faithful servant of the Lord about the reward and they will tell you about the reward of sustaining grace. Ask a dying saint about the reward and they will tell you about the reward in their testimony of dying grace. God is pleased by those who come to Him by faith and He rewards them richly. The riches of His reward are not so much in wealth or health but rather, Himself!
