“Everything is Beautiful”
“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.” – Ecclesiastes – 3:11
Beauty is seen in this world in many things given to us by God to enjoy. The splendor of God’s creation and handiwork displays a beauty which no human artist can ever capture on a canvas. Solomon even places “travail” in the context of beauty! “I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.” – Ecclesiastes 3:10. There is beauty in the things in life as they are seen in the scheme of God in His work in His people and in the tasks and exercises assigned to each of them.
It is said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”! I would say that “sanctified eyes” can see beauty in aspects of life overlooked by eyes which have never been opened by help from the Divine Optometrist. I think of the man born blind in the Gospel account but had his sight restored by the Lord Jesus Christ. His critics couldn’t accept the miracle and claims of the One who did the healing but the man healed of his blindness went sight seeing before the day was over for the first time in his life! His argument was from experience for the miracle could not be denied. “He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” – John 9:25
Opened eyes can see beauty in this world even in places marked by ugliness and stained as a result of sin. We could look at the war-ravaged Country of Ukraine and see beauty displayed in the love, loyalty, and sacrifice of the people on behalf of their homeland. Their love for their homeland is not just about the geographical beauty of the Country but rather the privilege of freedom which the people are able to enjoy. The love of freedom is instilled in the DNA of human beings and precious to the extent that one’s physical life is counted as worthy of sacrifice for the sake of the maintenance of this precious treasure.
It is also a thing of beauty to note in human beings the capacity of the thought and consciousness of eternity. The verse says, “he hath set the world in their heart” or “eternity” in their heart”! The “incurable religious nature” of human beings argues for the God given human nature having a sense of inferiority and the thought of there being someone greater than self! The practice of religion is a global exercise. We know, however, that spiritual life is found in salvation in Jesus Christ. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – John 14:6
There is wonderful beauty in miraculous birth and person of the new born baby! There is, furthermore, wonderful beauty in the miraculous birth of the new creation in Christ Jesus. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – II Corinthians 5:17
Yes, God has “made every thing beautiful in his time” and that beauty is seen even in this dark and war-torn world. It is seen in the providence of God who is in control and never allows anything to happen but what He permits and is part of His overall plan for His people and this earth.
