“Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.” – Acts 17:31
Paul came to Athens not as a tourist with his camera flashing but as a man of God on mission for the Lord. He would have found plenty of things in the historic City to have been “tourist worthy” but his “spirit was stirred” not because of admiration of the City’s culture but rather an abhorrence of the City’s idolatry! The many gods of Athens aroused the righteous indignation of the preacher and he cut to the chase in the warning of God’s coming judgment upon the Christ rejectors and idol worshippers.
I would also remind this sinful and evil world that payday is coming someday and lost sinners will not like the “paycheck”! May I be straight and to the point and state that the wages of sin is still death whether we choose to believe it or not! The plain truth of Scripture is not altered by human opinion. This world and its intelligentsia do not know more than God, the standards of the Bible are still the same, evil will one day be dealt with, and it pays to be saved when your appointment of death is served! What applied to the people of Athens Greece, applies to the people of New York City, Las Angeles, Atlanta, and all cities, towns, and geographical places in America and around the World.
