The Beauty of Weakness
“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” – II Corinthians 12:10
A few years ago, one of my church members sent me this picture of this fawn not long birthed, whom its mother gave birth to close to their house. They were struck with the beauty of the young deer and wanted the best for it and were advised to just leave it alone and its mother would retrieve it. That was exactly what happened!
The little fawn was totally helpless and had to depend completely upon the care and nurture of its mother. It is beautiful and its beauty is seen in its markings, innocence, and, yes, helplessness. Who would want to even think of harming it? These characteristics certainly “got it a pass” from, us humans! Its strength was in its weakness for all it could do was yield to powers greater than itself.
The Apostle said, “…when I am weak, then am I strong.” The strongest moments of the Christian are, perhaps, when they are, “spotted” with weakness, realizing fully their help must come from the Lord. What greater strength could a Christian ever have than in those times they sense that God has picked them up, as a “little fawn” and shielded and protected them in the mighty hands of His Deity! Yes, I also believe that the Heavenly Father views His weak children as beautiful in His sight for He see them clothed in the “spotless” righteousness of His Son.
