The Eastern Star
The Magi from the east came to Jerusalem to worship Christ. They had seen his star in the east. “Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:2 Balaam, the prophet, spoke of “a Star out of Jacob.” “I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.” – Numbers 24:17
Our eastern horizon is lit up each morning when the sun appears. This largest star in our galaxy dominates the eastern sky. Light and life are made possible by our sun. The “Star out of Jacob,” God’s Son, dominates our sky for He is our life and light! He is not only the reason for the season, He is the Personification of Christmas. Try pronouncing “Christmas” without “Christ”!
It is also worthwhile to point out that the presence of the “Star out of Jacob” is full assurance that the descendants of Jacob will live. The fight against the descendants of Jacob is a fight against the “Star of Jacob”! A war against God is as ridiculous as the United States going to war with China armed with nothing but cap pistols!
The darkened landscape of this fallen world will soon be lit up, for the eastern “Star out of Jacob” will appear. “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” – Malachi 4:2
We are celebrating, at Christmas, far more than the birth of Christ. We are celebrating His life and victory over death hell and the grave. The Innocent Babe of Bethlehem was the Mighty Conqueror at Calvary. This “Star” of Heaven and Earth is shining bright and this “SON” will “come up” for He is “coming back”! The enemies of Christmas may take the “Nativity” down but why should we worry? They cannot take the “Star out of Jacob” out of the sky. Have a Merry Christmas! – Chuck Peters – 12/10/2023
