The Week of Easter
“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” – Colossians 2:14-15
The “Passion Week” or Week of Easter is a Week far more significant than an annual holiday week with its traditions and customs. This Week, viewed Biblically, is the Week that pertained to the victorious redemptive work of Christ, in His work of substitution for the sins of lost sinners. This “Biblical Week” celebrates a “battlefield victory” on the hill of Golgotha where the Prince of Glory triumphed over the forces of evil and left behind an empty tomb, verifying that the foe had been defeated.
The First Adam was defeated on the “battlefield of Eden” but the Last Adam prevailed on the “battlefield of Calvary”! Sunday is coming, announcing that His tomb is empty but His throne is occupied. That first “Resurrection Sunday” displayed a vacated garden tomb and a notice served against death and the grave that they were whipped!
This Week has the best ending for it commemorates the best victory with the best results. “Living, He loved me Dying, He saved me Buried, He carried my sins far away Rising, He justified freely forever One day He’s coming Oh glorious day, oh glorious day” – Mark Hall
