We’re on The Shore of 2024!

Christmas Day, 2023, is now in our rearview mirror and we find ourselves in the final days of the year. Our place at the tail end of the year and anticipation of the New Year is somewhat of a “staging ground” for entrance into 2024. I think of my Military days and my deployment “staging” in Kuwait before going into Iraq. We trained up and ramped up for entrance into the battle field and all its challenges.

Joshua’s words come to mind. “Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.” – Joshua 3:4 He gave, “crossing over the river Jordon” advice to Israel, while they were on the shore of the river. He commanded that the people keep a proper distance between themselves and the Ark of the Covenant because it was essential that it be seen in the cross over. It, obviously, typified Christ. The Ark was up front, as they journeyed.

We have not crossed over yet but this same ancient advice still applies in application to all of us on the shore of 2024. We need to keep our eyes squarely on the Lord, realizing that He leads the way and clears the way for our entrance. We have not passed this way before but He has for He is up front! Its up to us to follow and let Him lead. Following Him is only possible to those who know Him in salvation. The best approach to a New Year is to go into the new year as a “new creation”! “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – II Corinthians 5:17 Have you been saved and become that “new creation”?
