“We love him, because he first loved us.” – I John 4:19
I find it easy to state the reasons why I love the Lord. I love Him first of all for the fact that He loved me in spite of the miserable sinner that I was in my unsaved condition. He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs. He came to me in my deepest despair and, lovingly, placed His redeeming arms around me and brought me up from the pit of despair to a place of delight and favor. I remember my oldest brother, also a preacher, witnessing to me, inviting me to church, hearing the Gospel message being preached, the Spirit of God tugging at my heart’s door, the trip down the aisle, the follow up counsel by the Godly deacon and the flooding of joy into my heart as its wickedness was washed away by the blood of the crucified One!
I love Him because He has given me the ability to love people regardless of who they are and where they are for that was the way He found me! He truly sheds His love abroad in the hearts of the redeemed.
I love Him because of my family and friends! I am so grateful for a faithful wife for over 50 years and my immediate family, to include a Gospel preaching son, and supportive Christian wife.
I love Him for the privilege of serving Him for many years and the rich rewards of experiencing His grace, guidance, and mercy along the way in spite of my failings and shortcomings.
I love Him because of Calvary. When I think of how God dumped all the sins of Adam’s race upon His precious and peerless Son, I love Him. When I think of the heavens being supernaturally darkened as the spotless Lamb experienced the darkness of separation from the Father on account of our sins, I love Him!
I love Him because I am able to love Him and one day my faith in Him will give way to sight for, I will see Him face to face. My “having not seen”, love, will become a full blown, “in His physical presence”, love, and that will be glory for me! “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:” – I Peter 1:8
