Life’s Purpose
The most noble purpose in life is God centered and focused upon God’s will for life. Bob Jones senior said, “It is better to die for something than to live for nothing.” Life’s purpose is a “heart purpose.” “Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.” – Acts 11:23 Life upon this earth is stunted when focus is upon possessions, pleasures, and power.
I have never seen a time when there was such a mass hysteria in “living for nothing”! Moral degeneration, disillusionment, and depression is the order of the day. When life’s purpose is centered only on this life the results are always counterproductive and lacking in real peace and contentment. King Solomon once tried to find pleasure in “living for nothing” but pleasures. He found that the enchantment of humanism and materialism resulted in mere vanity and emptiness. His greatest display of wisdom is found in his concluding statement in the Book of Ecclesiastes. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” – Ecclesiastes 12:13
Life’s real purpose is to know, love, fear, and obey the Lord. That purpose is fulfilled when one’s heart purpose is to cleave to the Lord. The “cleaving” heart must first be a “believing” heart. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” – Romans 10:10 God alone enables a person to really fulfill life’s purpose and apart from His direction, life is for nothing! – Chuck Peters – 9/8/2023
