Promises
God is a “promise keeping” God! “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” – II Peter 3:9 Today promises made by people are casually broken and redefined to mean, “a possibility” rather than “a certainty”! They are open ended or not made sincerely. I write this as a home owner still waiting for a promised phone call pertaining to a repair order on my home! It does not seem to register with many these days that honesty is a character trait and a fulfilled promise is an example of good character. Promises do not mean a lot to many people, including some Christians! Promises are not just to be “stood upon” but “acted upon”!
God is not slack concerning His promises. He has promised to return and the fact that He has not returned does not mean He will not! The fact that He is not willing that sinners perish does not meant they will not perish if they fail to get saved! We make the mistake of basing conclusions on God’s promises and workings by mere human experience and understandings. God is eternal and time, as we know, is not comparable to eternity. One of our days is as a thousand years with the Lord! “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” – II Corinthians 1:20
