What Do We Do if The Foundation Crumbles?
David served in Saul’s court and Saul was lawless and egotistical in his rule. He was a threat to law and order in society and the very foundations of moral order were under attack. David wrote, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” – Psalm 11:3 David was advised to flee but he made it clear that his greatest security was not in flight but faith. David knew that his security was not based upon an earthly king on an earthly throne but rather a Heaven King on the Heavenly throne! “The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.” – Psalm 11:4
We need to understand that there is life beyond the crumbling of earthly foundations for God’s throne is still intact. He loves righteousness and looks with favor upon those who walk in the path of righteousness. That means they are safe and secure even when the governments of men crumble and the moral and spiritual state of a Nation is spiritually bankrupt.
The question, then, is what can the righteous do? The answer is found in the right relationship with God in salvation and the corresponding faith conclusion. The conclusion is the realization that the Lord is still on the throne despite the crumpling of earthly thrones.
Today there is great political strife in our own government and turmoil in the Middle East. We are witnessing a time when the world is globally dangerous. The Nation Israel is at war and this Middle Eastern war could possibly develop into another World war! Hearts everywhere are failing because of fear. I would suggest that the safest citizenship is not to be found in any earthly citizenship but rather in the heavenly citizenship which is secure in Heaven and under the rule of the Lord, Himself. His kingdom will not pass away and when all earthly thrones are reduced to the ashes of history, He will still be on the throne and His subjects will be safe! “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3
