“Why All This Trouble?”
Gideon once asked why did the enemy have the right to plague the people that God was with? “And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” – Judges 6:13 It is both safe and Biblical to state that God’s people are not immune to threats and torments from evil forces in this world. Salvation delivers us from the bondage of sin but not the presence of evil forces mounted against those serving God. We do know, if we keep reading, that God did deliver Israel from the Midianite threat but it was in His time and in His way. Redemption and suffering can be reconciled when one understands that God never leads His people “out” without purpose and design. He led Israel out of Egypt and, ultimately, into Caanan but even in Caanan, the threats did not end. Yes, the Nation will one day be totally in its promised land, including all the land! We see this to be true if “we keep reading.” There is coming a time when all the redeemed of God will wonder why they even asked, why?
